Both times they gave an elaborate story about it being an original oil worth $8-10K and about knowing the owner (who they said had worked for a high-end art shop) for many years and who was currently away in Europe.
I had them bring down the painting so that I could examine it and I quickly discovered that it was almost certainly a Giclee copy by examining the border of the image.
