Amazing artwork of A.E Backus and the Highwaymen painters of South Florida.

A MUST DO visit in St Lucie County.

Plus located directly on the Indian River next door to the Manatee Center ($2.00 entrance fee) and the the Chamber of Conference, there is plenty to see including the river and the boats.

View what "The Treasure Coast's landscapes and sea acapes looked like to the artists. The musuem is quiet, clean, small enough to visit in an hour or large enough to enjoy art for a lifetime.

Very interesting and informative on local artists from ft pierce fl and the history of the highwaymen

A.E.Backus was an original early Florida landscape painter. Additional, he contributed to the creation of the, Florida Highwaymen. A significant collection of many of the Highwaymen 's paintings are displayed.

A great collection of Highwaymen paintings and works along with the life history of A. E. Backus. I really enjoyed learning about this great artist who was the mentor for the Highwaymen painters. It was interesting to see how our area in Fort Pierce and Saint Lucie County has changed over the years through his depictions.

A definite opportunity for the appreciation of art and Florida history.

Original art by Beanie Backus and "The Highwaymen" the men he taught to paint. Whom sold their works, many in homemade wooden frames, up and down US Highway 1, thus receiving the name Hifhwaymen.
